This app is not an ebook but I was so impressed with it I felt it deserved our attention. A nifty support for teaching digital citizenship including search techniques (using Google), safe passwords, acknowledging the work of others and more I haven’t played with yet. The app is FREE and well worth adding to your collection. Definitely suitable for Years 7&8 in spite of the age suggestion.
This comic looks great. I’ll trial it with some kids at school.
The digital Phoenix has landed! This brilliant weekly story comic is now available for the iPad and is packed full of amazing stuff – 100% original stories, fascinating non-fiction, fiendish puzzles, cool competitions and loads more! And when you download this fantabulous Newsstand app, you can get a FREE full-length issue! That’s not all either… when you buy a subscription you’ll get a brilliant FREE TRIAL!
Explore the world’s most famous diary in this richly immersive experience for iPad2 and above.
• 21 video clips from Academy Award winning documentary-maker Jon Blair
• Over 40 audio clips, including commentary from Miep Gies, one of the helpers who risked her life to aid Anne and her family in hiding
• Exclusive access to the archive of the Anne Frank Fonds, founded by Anne’s father Otto Frank, including previously unreleased material
‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank for iPad is the remarkable edition of ‘one of the greatest books of the century’.
In the summer of 1942, fleeing the horrors of the Nazi occupation, Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse. Aged thirteen when she went into the Secret Annexe, Anne kept a diary in which she confided her innermost thoughts and feelings. An intimate record of adolescence and heartbreak, courage and inspiration, ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank for iPad offers stunning new ways to explore Anne’s world, what it looked, sounded and felt like living in hiding and what, in turn, was happening outside the Annexe walls.
‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank for iPad is published by Penguin Books UK and Beyond the Story.
At last, something of superb quality for more mature readers. This is a stunning presentation of Anne Frank’s diary and life. Although it costs $13.99 I think it should be on every school ipad especially in the libraries. This app takes ebooks to a new level of quality and I look forward to the response to it from Anne Frank readers.

Lucas Remmerswaal felt the pain during the financial crisis of 2008. He saw the hopelessness, regret, despair and tears in the eyes of retired people that had lost their life’s savings. “What can I do about this tragedy?” haunted Remmerswaal for 2 years. His answer I can share Warren Buffett’s good Habits with children.” Inspired by Buffett’s MBA speeches, example and wisdom. – The tale of Tortoise Buffett and Trader Hare is the first in a series of books that is a tribute to Warren Buffett on his 80th Birthday.
Teachers will welcome this concise and witty tale:
“A child will want to pick this up. I don’t care if they are 8 years old, 18 years old or 80 years old.” Beth Black The Bookworm, Omaha.
“This is a story about a man who went from nothing to enormously successful based on a series of principles. Lucas did not come to me and say “I’ve got a story about a Billionaire” He came and said “I’ve got a story about how a person became that on the basis of these habits and these principles”. “It’s a winner!” – John Hattie Professor of Education, Director Visible Learning labs.
It’s great fun for kids of all ages and helps with financial literacy, habits and principles.
There’s not much around to help promote good savings habits and this app supports that using a well-recognised story. It’s free and the downloadable PDF is a bonus ebook. Should be a definite addition to school iPads.
Also available as a PDF download.

Kiwipedia is a not-for-profit organisation whose sole aim is to promote education through high quality, mobile apps for people of all ages.
This app should be on all school ipads. Nicely constructed with plenty of information and excellent videos. I couldn’t get the app to record my voice for the animal names but don’t regard that as very important. Great work Kiwipedia – they deserve our support.

Well received by the 6-11 year olds I shared this with today. Having the print edition to show that this was a real book that has been cleverly adapted for iPad highlights the interactive features of the app. Great fun and brilliantly narrated by Frank Woodley. Thumbs up from my students today, even the big kids.
For little readers (and adults) who don’t want to just stand and look, but who want to play an active role in this unforgettable adventure. Thanks to the iPad’s (or iPhone) magic.
Are you familiar with the story of Pinocchio, the little puppet who talks, moves and throws tantrums just like a regular child (but who is certainly no child)?
Then you might like to help Geppetto build his puppet, bit by bit, or use your own hands to move Fire Eater’s marionettes, or even throw yourself into the joyful music of Toyland. This is what you’ll be doing when you go from one scene to the next in this app. But you’ll also have to wend your way through the dark forest full of mysterious night animals, deal with a monstrous snake, save your little puppet friend before his feet catch on fire, and figure out how to turn him into a real, live little boy…
How will you manage all this? By keeping your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground (oh, and mind where you put your feet, or fingers!). Each and every scene is full of surprises.
-Interactivity–an array of different interactive elements, with touch-sensitive animation or sound effects, moving figures you can interact with, objects you can throw, drag or move by tilting your iPad/iPhone
-Original artist’s illustrations
-Original music, with 4 themes composed especially for this app
-2D/3D engine with physical support, particle systems, shaders, flares and lots more besides, developed specifically for this app
-An absorbing story that traces the most exciting and moving events in Collodi’s classic tale
- English and Italian narration
A perfect app to support the study of toys at school this term. This classic, longer story with stunning graphics will appeal to all ages and it certainly hooked my review class of discerning six-year-olds today. This app will require children to be more actively engaged in reading and predicting as opposed to just being entertained by the interactive elements.
